A Legal 500 ranked firm is looking to appoint an experienced Head of Family Law to lead and further develop its established and highly regarded private family department across its Chester and Liverpool offices.

This is a senior strategic role offering genuine autonomy, the opportunity to shape the future direction of the department, and a clear platform for progression at partnership or director level.

The Role

You will take overall responsibility for the Family department, overseeing private family work exclusively. The role combines hands-on fee earning with leadership, mentoring, and business development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a team of family solicitors and support staff
  • Managing a high-quality caseload of private family matters, including divorce, financial remedies, and children work (HNW experience advantageous)
  • Setting and delivering the department's strategic and financial objectives
  • Driving growth through business development, referrals, and profile-raising
  • Maintaining high standards of client care and Legal 500-level service delivery

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Solicitor with significant post-qualification experience in private Family Law
  • Strong background in complex financial and children matters
  • Demonstrable leadership or supervisory experience, or clear readiness to step into a head-of-department role
  • Commercially minded with a genuine interest in growing a department
  • Resolution membership or Law Society Family Panel membership desirable
