A reputable London local authority is seeking to recruit an interim Deputy Principal Planning Lawyer to join their team on a locum basis, starting in early September.
The Deputy Principal Planning Lawyer will join the London Council on an initial three-month locum contract, which will then be extended on a rolling basis pending permanent recruitment. Office and committee attendance is flexible. While hybrid working is preferred, remote applicants will still be considered.
The role will involve managing a backlog of Section 106 Agreements and Unilateral Undertakings, advising on planning enforcement notices, appeals, property‑related regulations and Section 111 Agreements. The Deputy Principal Lawyer will also support the implementation of changes to planning legislation, publishing legal decisions, and acting as a trusted adviser to the Council, its officers and elected Members.
The successful Deputy Principal Lawyer will be responsible for leading a team of approximately three to four direct reports in a hands‑on management role. This is a senior position requiring extensive experience in planning law, ideally gained within a local authority setting, with the confidence and expertise to provide advice across a broad range of complex matters.
