The Opportunity

We are seeking a Design engineer to join our dynamic team in Ashby-De-La-Zouch. This role is ideal for a motivated individual looking to contribute to high-profile rail projects, work on exciting technology, and progress their career within a supportive and flexible environment.

You’ll be involved in writing specifications, producing system designs, supporting on‑site engineers remotely, and managing technical client interfaces. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your skills, gain industry exposure, and make your mark in a thriving company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed system designs including general arrangements, schematics, loop diagrams, and more.
  • Write and maintain project documentation such as Functional Design Specifications and Test Procedures.
  • Support the full project lifecycle, including design, testing, and delivery.
  • Assist with technical audits and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with site engineers to support project implementation.
  • Engage with clients to manage technical interfaces and requirements.
  • Work with tools such as MS Office, Visio, CAD, and JVSG.
  • Ensure documentation and designs are completed to client specifications and industry standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes.
  • Maintain awareness of Quality Assurance and compliance throughout projects.

What We’re Looking For

  • HND, HNC, BEng, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, or significant relevant experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical designs.
  • Strong working knowledge of system design principles and engineering standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and JVSG is desirable.
  • Previous experience in the rail sector (CCTV, CIS, LLPA, PHPs) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Proven ability to manage tasks independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with attention to detail and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing project demands.

Working Hours

  • Full‑Time – 37.5 hours/week
  • Flexible working available within:
    Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 18:00
    Core Hours:
    • Monday to Thursday: 09:00 – 16:00
    • Friday: 09:00 – 12:00
      Lunch: 12:00 – 12:30
