The Senior Designer plays a key role in shaping and delivering Selfridges' creative expression across physical and digital touchpoints, translating the brand vision into bold, culturally relevant and creatively distinctive design solutions. Working as part of the wider Creative team, this role is responsible for developing innovative and impactful creative across campaigns, in-store experiences and always-on communications. Combining strong conceptual thinking with exceptional craft and execution, the Senior Designer will help bring the unique personality of the Selfridges brand to life across all channels and customer touchpoints.
This role requires a highly creative and culturally connected designer with a strong point of view, an instinct for storytelling and a deep understanding of contemporary visual culture. They will contribute to the evolution of the Selfridges design language by creating work that is both creatively ambitious and commercially effective - ensuring all output is elevated, relevant and aligned to the wider brand vision.
Operating across a broad range of projects, from large-scale campaigns and immersive retail experiences to editorial, digital and graphic design execution, the Senior Designer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary creative teams to realise ideas with clarity, innovation and consistency. They will play an important role in championing creative excellence, inspiring those around them and supporting the continued evolution of Selfridges as a benchmark-setting creative brand.
They will also help shape how design operates within the wider Creative function - fostering collaboration, contributing to effective creative processes and ensuring work is delivered to the highest standard across every stage of development and execution.
Role Scope & Responsibilities- Creative Development & Design: Lead the development and delivery of innovative creative concepts across campaigns, in-store experiences and all brand channels. Create compelling and elevated design solutions that bring the Selfridges brand personality to life across physical and digital touchpoints. Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Selfridges design language through bold, future-facing and culturally relevant creative. Apply exceptional graphic design, typography and visual storytelling skills across a wide range of outputs and formats. Develop creative across print, large and small format, digital, editorial, spatial concepts and experiential executions.
- Campaign & Project Delivery: Collaborate with the wider Design teams to define, shape and realise creative campaigns and projects. Work across projects of varying scale and complexity, from store guides and editorial content to large-scale campaign creative and immersive brand experiences. Ensure all work is delivered to a high creative standard, on brand and aligned to project objectives and timelines. Support the translation of creative briefs into strong conceptual and commercially effective outcomes. Maintain consistency and attention to detail across all stages of creative development and execution.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with multidisciplinary creative teams including design, production, UX, VM, Windows, Photostudio and wider studio functions. Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to support creative and communication needs where required. Contribute positively to team culture through collaboration, creative input and shared problem solving. Support the Senior Design Manager and Digital Design Manager in evolving and elevating the wider creative output of the brand.
- Cultural & Creative Leadership: Stay connected to contemporary culture, design, fashion, media and emerging creative movements to inform and inspire creative thinking. Bring awareness of the wider retail and luxury landscape, with an understanding of trends across fashion, beauty, home, food and lifestyle. Contribute ideas that help position Selfridges as a benchmark-setting creative and cultural brand. Champion high standards of creativity, craft and innovation across all work.
- Significant experience within a mid-to-senior design role, ideally within a retail, fashion, luxury or creative agency environment.
- A strong and diverse portfolio demonstrating high-quality creative execution across graphic design, print, digital, experiential and spatial projects.
- Exceptional typography, layout and visual communication skills with a strong creative aesthetic and attention to detail.
- Experience creating creative for retail environments, campaigns and multi-channel brand communications.
- Understanding of motion graphics and immersive or experiential design approaches is advantageous.
- Highly proficient across Adobe Creative Suite and Figma. Knowledge of After Effects and Cinema 4D would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Able to balance conceptual creativity with practical delivery and production requirements.
- Comfortable operating within a fast-paced and evolving creative environment.
