Job Introduction
What is the role?
As Buying Manager for Menswear Ready to Wear, you will support the Director of Menswear Buying in managing our Menswear Fashion division. You will drive the creative and commercial direction of the category by sourcing new brands and products, negotiating terms, and ensuring Selfridges remains a leader in the Menswear Fashion industry. You will manage a defined buying area, lead a team, and collaborate cross-functionally to increase sales, optimize profitability, and enhance our product offer.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing the creative strategy for Menswear Ready to Wear, aligning with short-term and long-term goals.
- Sourcing new brands and products to maintain market leadership.
- Negotiating commercial terms with suppliers, including margins, trade discounts, and marketing support.
- Securing exclusive brand launches and developing compelling propositions.
- Driving sales and profitability based on sound commercial decisions.
- Collaborating with the Merchandise team on planning and monitoring OTB, reviewing in-season performance, and taking necessary actions.
- Leading range planning with the Merchandiser Manager and Buyers.
- Managing existing brand performance through regular analysis and decision-making.
- Overseeing concessions and making recommendations based on performance.
- Communicating effectively with retail operations, especially regarding new launches and support plans.
- Partnering with social media, marketing, PR, and digital teams to support key brands and launches.
- Working with Property to implement new concepts effectively.
- Ensuring optimal product placement in partnership with Retail Management and VM.
- Overseeing ordering processes and supporting administrative functions.
- Leading, developing, and coaching the Menswear Ready to Wear team.
- Partnering with the legal team on contracts and agreements.
- Driving new concepts, managing CAPEX, and collaborating with the property team.
- Supporting seasonal activities across the business.
Candidate Profile:
- Experienced Buyer or above, ideally with a background in Men’s fashion, luxury, streetwear, or tailoring.
- Strategic, commercial, and innovative thinker.
- Deep knowledge of fashion industry trends and market dynamics.
- Proactive in sourcing new brands and concepts.
- Experience managing large projects and multi-million-pound budgets.
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing abilities.
- Leadership skills to motivate and develop teams.
- Passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences.
