Overview
The Compliance & Contracts Manager is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s legal and regulatory compliance across its contracting operations. This role ensures that all contractor engagements, client agreements, and internal processes align with applicable laws, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards. Operating in a fast-paced, international environment, the role combines contract lifecycle management, compliance oversight, audit readiness, and stakeholder advisory. The position acts as a key bridge between commercial teams, external partners, and legal advisers to enable compliant and efficient business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight: Lead and manage compliance across contractor engagements, ensuring adherence to employment law, GDPR, IR35, AWR, and other relevant regulations. Monitor regulatory developments and implement updates to internal policies, processes, and contract templates. Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions. Own and maintain audit readiness, including ISO 9001 standards.
- Contract Management: Oversee the full contract lifecycle, including onboarding, drafting, issuing, negotiation, and ongoing compliance monitoring. Review and approve contracts with clients, partners, and contractors to ensure legal and commercial alignment. Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and audit-ready contractual documentation.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as a key point of contact between internal teams (sales, operations, finance), external clients, and third-party advisers. Provide practical, business-focused guidance on contractual and compliance matters. Support cross-border contracting by liaising with external legal and tax specialists.
- Process Improvement & Policy Development: Develop, implement, and continuously improve compliance frameworks and internal policies. Identify opportunities to streamline contract and compliance processes to support business growth. Deliver training and guidance to internal teams on compliance requirements and best practices.
- Operational Support: Oversee contractor onboarding and right-to-work compliance processes. Ensure proper document management, record keeping, and data protection standards are maintained.
Key Skills & Experience
- Experience in compliance, legal operations, or contract management (ideally in recruitment, staffing, or international contracting environments).
- Strong understanding of employment law, GDPR, and contractor regulations (e.g., IR35, AWR).
- Experience supporting audits and maintaining compliance frameworks (ISO standards desirable).
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to operate independently and take ownership in a standalone or small-team function.
