The Role
We are looking for a hands-on ISM Superintendent to take ownership of the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring full compliance with the ISM Code, UK maritime legislation, and client requirements. This role is your chance to lead safety initiatives, support vessel crews, and drive operational excellence across an expanding fleet.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Enhance and maintain the SMS in line with ISM, ISO, and Workboat Code standards
- Conduct audits on vessels and shore operations, and prepare crews for MCA inspections
- Provide day-to-day safety and compliance support for Masters, crew, and operations teams
- Lead incident investigations, performing root-cause analysis and implementing improvements
- Review and approve risk assessments, method statements, and operational procedures
- Support emergency response planning and participate in the response team
- Oversee crew competence, drills, training, and familiarisation processes
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure best practice is implemented
- Engage directly with vessel crews and clients both in-person and virtually
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of ISM Code and UK maritime legislation
- Marine safety, compliance, or superintendent experience
- Seagoing background with practical vessel knowledge
- Proven experience in audits and incident investigations
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
Desirable:
- ISM/ISO Internal Auditor qualification
- Designated Person Ashore (DPA) certification
- Offshore wind or CTV/workboat sector experience
- Familiarity with fleet management systems and offshore-specific CRM/ERP software
- NEBOSH or equivalent safety qualification
