About The Role

Select Plant Hire, part of Laing O'Rourke, is a leading provider of construction equipment, accommodation, and support services across the UK. We are seeking a proactive and organised Hire Desk Assistant to support the efficient delivery of hire services across our Formwork and Falsework hire operations. In this role, you will coordinate hire orders, manage equipment availability, handle customer queries, and help maximise asset utilisation, providing a high level of service to both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately process orders for equipment supply in a timely manner
  • Provide advice on equipment requirements to site personnel
  • Act as the first point of contact for queries, breakdowns, and exchanges
  • Organise administrative workloads to ensure smooth operations
  • Manage on/off hire requests for both stocked and rehired equipment
  • Monitor and maximise asset availability and utilisation
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including Health & Safety
  • Work with the Purchase Ledger team to resolve supplier invoice queries
  • Assist the Customer Service team with customer-related issues
  • Provide customers with pricing, availability, and scheduling information
  • Maintain accurate and methodical administration in line with team operations

Essential

  • Good level of IT proficiency

  • Relevant operational experience in a similar field
  • Ability to prioritise effectively in a busy environment

  • Previous customer service experience in a large organisation

  • Experience in plant hire or temporary accommodation services
