Our Water Hygiene Business Unit is a new division built upon our core competencies in pre-commissioning cleaning, remedial cleaning, and closed system management.

We are dedicated to delivering innovative, compliant, and efficient water management solutions for commercial and industrial clients. By integrating cutting-edge smart building technologies and data-driven maintenance solutions with specialist expertise in water treatment and HVAC commissioning, we ensure safe, sustainable water systems.

As the Water Hygiene Operations Manager, you will lead the technical and operational delivery of water hygiene services, with a dual focus on domestic water services and cooling tower management. This role is designed for a technical expert with deep working knowledge of interpreting legionella risk assessments, implementing control schemes, and managing cooling tower systems, coupled with a strong desire to transition into a leadership and operational management role.

You will drive compliance, oversee service delivery, and support the growth of this new business unit, reporting directly to senior leadership. The role offers hybrid working, with the flexibility for the successful candidate to manage their own hybrid working schedule, including paid travel for stakeholder meetings.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership: Apply deep expertise in water hygiene processes, including chlorination, disinfection, and maintenance of domestic water systems (e.g., hot and cold water systems, storage tanks) and cooling towers (e.g., evaporative cooling systems, drift eliminators, water treatment programs), building on our established strengths in pre-commissioning cleaning, remedial cleaning, and closed system management.

Compliance and Risk Management: Interpret legionella risk assessments and develop, implement, and oversee control schemes and strategies for both domestic water systems and cooling towers to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., HSE ACoP L8, HTM 04-01). Audit compliance programs to mitigate risks.

Cooling Tower Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and control of cooling tower systems, ensuring effective water treatment, biofouling control, and legionella prevention through robust monitoring and maintenance strategies.

Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations, including planning, resource allocation, and project execution, to ensure timely and high-quality service delivery to clients across both domestic water and cooling tower services.

Team Leadership: Guide and mentor a team of water hygiene engineers. Provide technical training and support to maintain high standards of service and safety in water hygiene and cooling tower operations.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders. Provide expert advice on water system and cooling tower design, maintenance, and upgrades to enhance hygiene and efficiency based on risk assessment outcomes.

Business Development Support: Identify opportunities for service expansion, contribute to tenders, and support the scalability of the new business unit as it grows.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations. Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to compliance and operational efficiency.

Continuous Improvement: Leverage smart technology and water treatment expertise to innovate and optimise service delivery processes for both domestic water systems and cooling towers, enhancing our core competencies in closed system management.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Deep working knowledge of interpreting legionella risk assessments, implementing control schemes, and managing cooling tower systems, with at least 10 years of relevant experience in water hygiene processes and cooling tower management.
  • Accredited certifications in water hygiene and legionella control (e.g., qualifications from recognised bodies such as the Water Management Society or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of UK legislation related to legionella compliance, water hygiene, and cooling tower management, with proven ability to action control measures effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on technical troubleshooting in domestic water systems and cooling towers.
  • A clear ambition to develop leadership and operational management skills, with a willingness to take on increasing responsibility.
  • Familiarity with smart building technologies, data analytics, or HVAC systems, aligning with the business unit’s innovative approach.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices in water management, such as water conservation and energy-efficient cooling tower operations.
  • Proficiency in reporting tools and software for compliance tracking.

What We Offer

Salary: £70,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Hybrid Working: Flexibility to manage your own hybrid working schedule, balancing remote and on-site work, with paid travel for stakeholder meetings.

Benefits: Pension and professional development opportunities.

Career Growth: Opportunity to transition into a leadership role within a dynamic, growing business unit.
