Base: King’s College Hospital Urgent Treatment Centre, SE London

Accountable to: Director of IT and Operations (Line Manager)

Duration: Interim or Permanent

Hours: Standard full-time hours 37.5 per week on-site, worked flexibly, across the week with some weekend and evening working

On-Call Requirement: Part of senior management remote on-call rota – usually one week in five

Role purpose

  • To deliver SELDOC UTC services safely, in line with customer KPI requirements and within agreed budgets.
  • To improve service delivery over time, so that “type 3” cases are routinely discharged within two hours – using the national “four-hour target” as a buffer to address unplanned incidents and surges.

Overview

This is a senior leadership role where the post-holder will take whatever management action is necessary to deliver the role purpose as described. They will work closely with the local leadership team:

  • Medical Lead (Dr)
  • Clinical Lead (ENP)
  • Assistant Service Manager (direct report)

And other local colleagues:

  • Care Navigators (part of direct reporting team).

They will also collaborate with members of the SELDOC “central” team including:

  • Director of IT and Operations
  • Medical Director and clinical governance team
  • Head of HR and team
  • Finance Director and finance team
  • Rota team
  • IT and data team

Target Outcomes

  • Safe service where risks are appropriately managed
  • CQC “good” or better
  • Main risks clearly identified and managed
  • High patient satisfaction and improved health outcomes, in line with target
  • Service KPI goals achieved in line with customer requirements
  • 98% of type 3 patients discharged within two hours (delivery timescale to be agreed – notionally, summer 2026)
  • 100% of type 3 patients discharged within four hours
  • Effective rota planning and delivery (in collaboration with SELDOC Rota team)
  • High levels of staff and colleague satisfaction
  • Strong collaborative relationships built with customers in the Trust – especially ED colleagues
  • Strong/dependable relationships built and nurtured with colleagues across the business, as needed to deliver these outcomes
  • Team culture in line with SELDOC values
  • Service reports for customer and internal use, complete, accurate and delivered on time (with support from business intelligence team) – to include breach validation reports
  • Own staff managed well with clear objectives, development plans and ongoing support
  • Ongoing service design “tweaks” to improve performance and patient experience
  • Service delivered within agreed budgets
  • UTC services which are renowned as high quality and low cost to customer
  • Contract extension (long term objective)
  • Oversee the mobilisation and operational readiness of new UTC contracts from inception to go-live
  • Ensure adherence to safeguarding, infection prevention, and clinical risk management protocols
  • Deliver services within agreed budgets while identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies.
  • Contribute to the preparation of bids and tenders for new UTC opportunities.
