A leading global hedge fund is seeking a high‑calibre Investment Data Scientist/Analyst to join its London Equities team. The role partners with a small number of Portfolio Managers and their research teams, helping to generate differentiated insights, drive advanced analytics and ML initiatives, and support the investment process across key sectors.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with investment teams to understand their research frameworks and enhance them through data‑driven insights.
- Identify and analyse key data drivers across companies, sectors, and value chains - with particular relevance to Industrials, TMT, or Consumer.
- Work with large and often unstructured datasets to validate investment theses and uncover new signals.
- Rapidly process and interrogate data to establish relevance, materiality, and potential impact on investment decisions.
- Deliver concise, high‑quality research, translating complex analysis into clear commercial implications for senior investment stakeholders.
- Build and evolve data‑led decision‑support tools, leveraging both existing and newly‑sourced datasets.
Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, etc.) and SQL.
- Strong foundation in analytics, statistical modelling, and quantitative reasoning.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large, messy, or unstructured datasets.
- Excellent commercial instinct: able to articulate data findings in the context of company fundamentals, sector dynamics, and investment debates.
- Proven experience engaging senior stakeholders in fast‑paced, high‑accountability environments.
- A genuine interest in equities and public markets, with familiarity across sectors such as Industrials, TMT, or Consumer (or other sectors).
- Preferred: Experience in Investment Management, Sell-Side Research or Hedge Funds.
- Also valued: Exceptional candidates from top technology firms or elite tech‑focused consulting groups.
- Strong academic track record, ideally in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
