A fantastic opportunity has opened for an experienced Gas & Power Trader to join a high‑performing trading team supporting a diverse and expanding generation portfolio across the I‑SEM and GB markets. This role sits at the centre of short‑term optimisation, real‑time decision‑making, and commercial strategy, offering the chance to directly influence portfolio performance while working alongside a highly skilled and collaborative group of traders.

Responsibilities

  • Build, prepare, and submit ex‑ante bids for multiple thermal units in I‑SEM.
  • Optimise balancing‑market bids to manage ex‑ante positions and capture in‑day opportunities.
  • Trade within‑day gas and power, dynamically adjusting as plant running changes.
  • Manage the assets' daily gas capacity position, reducing exposure to overruns and maximising secondary‑market opportunities.
  • Oversee and trade the assets' carbon position, fully aligned with internal controls.
  • Develop, refine, and execute short‑term trading strategies across ex‑ante and balancing markets to maximise plant P&L.
  • Prepare and deliver market analysis, reports, and insights for management and stakeholders.
  • Provide required submissions to SEMO, EirGrid, CRU, GNI and other industry bodies.
  • Conduct competitor and participant‑strategy analysis, feeding insight into the trading book.
  • Share responsibility for producing the monthly trading report for senior management.

Ideal Candidate

  • Background in gas and electricity markets.
  • Previous energy trading experience.
  • Strong understanding of I‑SEM operations and dynamics.
  • Knowledge of Ireland & GB commodity markets: gas, coal, oil, carbon.
  • Understanding of interconnector operations, transmission‑system services and market codes.
  • Excellent MS Office skills; strong proficiency in Excel for modelling and analysis.
  • Advantageous: SQL, Python, VBA, PLEXOS or other analytical/statistical tools.
  • Exceptional time‑management and the ability to act decisively in fast‑moving markets.
  • Highly commercial and analytically minded.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable engaging across all levels of the business.
  • A collaborative team player, able to work independently when required.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable responding to the fast‑changing needs of the organisation.
  • Detail‑oriented, organised, and capable of running multiple trading strategies simultaneously.
