Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Privacy Counsel to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in overseeing that our organization upholds the highest standards of data privacy, protection, and compliance with applicable data privacy laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in the field, with strong writing and analytical skills.

What you\’ll be doing:

  • Monitor and assess compliance with data privacy regulations, laws, and policies and stay at the forefront of legal developments in privacy and related global regulations that impact our products and customers
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to data privacy including data processing agreements for both customers and vendors
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and data protection audits
  • Manage data subject access requests
  • Work closely with the commercial legal team on privacy issues that arise during a customer negotiation and serve as an escalation point for the same
  • Analyze data flows, including creating data maps, and identify potential privacy risks
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation on privacy practices and issues
  • Assist in the development and implementation of privacy policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data protection measures are integrated into all business processes
  • Stay updated on evolving privacy laws and best practices
  • Provide support during privacy and security incidents and investigations
  • Support customer facing teams in sales and customer success to handle customer questions on data privacy compliance
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on Seismic’s privacy compliance for both reference by internal cross-functional teams and externally facing documentation for customers

What you bring to the team:

  • 2+ years of experience as a privacy legal counsel
  • Experience in data privacy laws, regulations, and emerging technologies
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Experience working with, and advising on, AI-powered products and services
  • Proficiency with common privacy technologies and tools (e.g., data mapping software, privacy management software)
  • Knowledge of global privacy regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Solid communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate privacy concepts and requirements to a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor, or equivalent degree

Nice to have:

  • Certifications in privacy (e.g., CIPP, CIPM)
  • Understanding of data security principles and practices
  • Experience working with customer facing teams like sales and customer success
