£37.15ph + holiday + pension or £50.40ph umbrella rate

We’re looking for an experienced Metallurgist to join a leading globally recognised Fortune 100 engineering company, providing specialist materials expertise across multiple UK manufacturing facilities. This is a senior technical role where you’ll act as a go-to expert for materials investigations, supporting product quality, manufacturing performance and failure analysis across a wide range of applications and industries. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers, supporting technical decision-making, and working directly with internal stakeholders and customers to resolve complex materials-related issues.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading metallurgical and materials investigations across multiple UK sites
  • Identifying root causes of material, product and manufacturing failures
  • Evaluating new materials, processes and manufacturing systems
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Supporting product development, validation and manufacturing readiness
  • Improving testing methods to enhance reliability, efficiency and cost
  • Presenting technical findings to engineering and non-technical audiences
  • Supporting customer-facing technical discussions and issue resolution
  • Contributing to audits and continuous improvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a materials / metallurgical environment
  • Strong background in failure analysis and materials evaluation
  • Experience in manufacturing, laboratory or engineering environments
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and make sound engineering decisions

Desirable Experience

  • Steel, forging or casting environments
  • ISO 17025 accredited laboratories
  • Automotive, aerospace, defence or nuclear industries
  • Non-metallic materials testing experience
