Senior Metallurgist
Peterborough - Fully on site PE1
Initially 12 months – very long term extensions highly likely
Working Hours: Monday – Thursday 08:30 – 16:45 / Friday 08:30 – 16:15
Pay: £37.15ph + holiday + pension or £50.40ph umbrella rate

This senior technical role requires a go‑to expert for materials investigations, supporting product quality, manufacturing performance and failure analysis across a wide range of applications and industries.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading metallurgical and materials investigations across multiple UK sites
- Identifying root causes of material, product and manufacturing failures
- Evaluating new materials, processes and manufacturing systems
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
- Supporting product development, validation and manufacturing readiness
- Improving testing methods to enhance reliability, efficiency and cost
- Presenting technical findings to engineering and non‑technical audiences
- Supporting customer‑facing technical discussions and issue resolution
- Contributing to audits and continuous improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a materials/metallurgical environment
- Strong background in failure analysis and materials evaluation
- Experience in manufacturing, laboratory or engineering environments
- Ability to provide technical guidance and make sound engineering decisions
Desirable Experience
- Steel, forging or casting environments
- ISO 17025 accredited laboratories
- Automotive, aerospace, defence or nuclear industries
- Non‑metallic materials testing experience
