Peterborough PE1 (Onsite role)

Initial 12 month contract – potential to extend for the right person, in line with business need.

37 hours a week with an early finish on a Friday! Circa 08.00 start Mon - Fri.

Up to £31.51 PAYE hourly rate plus holiday and pension contribution OR Umbrella hourly rates up to £42.77.

We’re looking for a Category Buyer to join a world leader in the design, manufacture and support of a world class range of engines, on an initial 12 month contract, which has potential to extend for the right person in line with business need!

What the Category Buyer’s remit involves:

  • Developing, managing and executing the category strategy managing policies, agreements, source catalogues, and special procurement programs.
  • Recognizing the potential for cost decreases, inventory reductions and quality improvement, as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment.
  • Acting as the liaison between the organization and the supplier to communicate information explicitly, while considering production demands and suppliers' conditions.
  • Documenting the suppliers' performance on time sensitiveness and production; maintains a strong relationship with suppliers.
  • Managing global suppliers.
  • Travel: may be required, less than 20% of the time.

Skills and experience the Category Buyer will need:

  • Proven experience in purchasing (3 years min.) in an engineering manufacturing environment (e.g. automotive, off highway, aerospace etc).
  • Must have direct material procurement experience.
  • Supplier Management and negotiation skills; demonstrable experience building and maintaining supplier relationships.
  • Ability to analyse data and use evaluation tools and techniques for procurement activities.
  • A strong communicator who is used to liaising with global suppliers.
  • Used to using an ERP/MRP software and a proficient user of Microsoft Office.
