We\'re Hiring: Rail Freight Maintenance Technician Field-Based | UK Rail Network | 12-Day Rotating Shift Pattern | Full-Time - Permanent

Are you a skilled engineer ready to take on a dynamic, field-based role in the rail freight sector?

Join a team that keeps the UK’s freight wagons moving with precision, safety, and speed. As an On-Call Fitter, you’ll respond to urgent call-outs, perform scheduled maintenance, and ensure wagons are safe, reliable, and ready for action.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair faults on freight wagons
  • Respond to emergencies including derailments and brake issues
  • Carry out inspections and scheduled maintenance
  • Support technical operations during on-call hours
  • Collaborate with terminal staff and train operators

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Fault-finding and repair experience
  • Strong communication and IT skills
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours and travel

Desirable extras

  • HNC/HND or NVQ Level 4
  • Knowledge of brake systems, couplers, and running gear
  • PTS or equivalent site access certification

Additional Information

Full training (12–16 weeks), tools, and PPE provided.

Work in a supportive team of two during on-call shifts.
