We are looking for an experienced Through Life Service (TLS) Engineer to play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing innovative electromechanical products across their full lifecycle. This is a senior, hands-on engineering role offering real influence over product maturity, reliability, and continuous improvement — from early R&D through in‑service support.

If you thrive on solving complex engineering problems, enjoy cross-functional collaboration, and want to see your designs perform in the real world, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.

As a Through Life Service Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering robust, high-quality mechanical engineering solutions that support both new technology development and existing in‑service products. You’ll lead engineering work packages, provide technical oversight to other engineers, and contribute directly to design assurance, investigation, and improvement activities.

You will work closely with mechanical, stress, thermal, manufacturing, validation, supply chain and quality teams to ensure products meet performance, cost, manufacturability, and supportability objectives throughout their lifetime.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver engineering work packages, ensuring solutions are technically robust, cost-effective and fit for purpose.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality CAD models, drawings and BOMs, compliant with company standards.
  • Author and review design assurance documentation, including design reports, hand/stress calculations, test procedures and tolerance analyses.
  • Support root cause analysis, investigations and design improvements for in‑service and next‑generation products.
  • Provide technical oversight and design approval for work delivered by other engineers within assigned teams.
  • Contribute to design reviews, gateway reviews and lifecycle support activities.
  • Deliver regular progress updates against project milestones, KPIs and agreed timescales.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, helping to build capability and technical excellence across the team.
What Success Looks Like
  • High-quality, right-first-time engineering solutions delivered to schedule and budget.
  • Clear, proactive communication with stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing and programmes.
  • Robust design assurance outputs aligned with internal processes and industry best practice.
  • Demonstrable contribution to risk reduction, product maturity and through-life performance.
  • Continuous improvement in personal technical capability and knowledge of products and processes.
Qualifications
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong experience delivering and owning engineering work packages.
  • Proven background in mechanical design of rotating equipment (e.g. shafts, bearings, seals, structures).
  • Solid understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated and comfortable working to demanding deadlines.
  • Experience with high-speed motors or power generation technologies.
  • Familiarity with tools such as CATIA, NX, Teamcenter, Windchill, SAP or MS Project.
  • Basic understanding of mechatronics and electronics.
  • Experience supporting in-service products and engaging with internal or external customers.
  • Exposure to managing or coordinating engineering service suppliers.
Why Apply?
  • Work on advanced, high-value engineering products used in demanding applications.
  • Influence product performance throughout its entire lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with highly skilled, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Take ownership and influence site delivery outcomes.
  • Be part of a safety-first, technically driven project environment.
