Role Overview
Reporting to the group Technical Director, the Audio Programmer will provide tool development and technical system design & implementation for Play Station Studios audio tools and technology department.
The role will involve game code, middleware and plugin development, offline tool development, and interfacing with R&D, platform, game teams, QA and other global teams.
- What you’ll be doing
- Design audio tools for sound design and music team.
- Process tools to drive automated build systems.
- Develop audio processing plugins for audio engines.
- Link game systems to audio engine.
- Link game system authoring tools to sound design tools.
- Implement complex new audio engine features.
- Plan, document, and implement all relevant audio systems in collaboration with the audio programming team.
- Support the sound design and music production team with tooling requests and game debugging.
- Ensure developed code runs efficiently and is bug‑free.
- Debug code to make it release ready.
- Provide packaged releases of audio systems.
- Take responsibility for overall audio tech delivery on a shipping game title.
- Update and maintain audio middleware.
- What we’re looking for
- Strong experience in C++ and object‑oriented / data‑oriented design.
- Passionate about audio and video games.
- Experience in C# . NET and WPF.
- Strong knowledge of 3D mathematics.
- Knowledge of acoustics and digital signal processing.
- Experience with audio production software: Pro Tools, Sound Forge, Reaper.
- Experience with Visual Studio or other development environments.
- Desired: knowledge of streaming systems and multithreading.
- Desired: experience in VST development.
- Desired: experience with audio middleware (FMOD, Wwise).
- Desired: experience in graphical patching environments (PD, MAX/MSP, Reaktor).
- Desired: experience in Unity 3D or Unreal development.
- Previous experience working in the games industry.
