Creative Assembly is seeking a Lead Technical Animator to join our team for a new project, a sequel to Alien: Isolation. The role is based in Horsham, UK, with flexible working options including hybrid, in-studio, or fully remote within the country of employment. Applications should ideally include a portfolio or link to one.

The Role

As the Lead Technical Animator, you will enhance the quality and efficiency of our character, animation, and pipeline development. You will bridge art, animation, and technology, ensuring high-quality character and animation development, integration, and delivery within UE5, influencing the game\’s foundation and aesthetics.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop and manage our character and animation pipelines from DCC tools to engine.
  • Design and implement character systems, rigs, tools, and pipelines.
  • Collaborate with animators, motion capture technicians, artists, and engineers to create immersive characters.
  • Review and improve existing workflows and tools.
  • Research new technologies to enhance our assets and pipelines.
  • Learn new skills to meet project needs and improve solutions.
  • Address daily requests for improvements and bug fixes.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • A passion for games and animation.
  • Strong communication skills for mentoring and guiding teammates.
  • Experience with Maya & MoBu.
  • Proficiency in Python and coding standards.
  • Expertise in complex rigging and in-engine character systems.
  • Experience working on AAA titles in a similar role.
  • Solid understanding of 3D math.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Experience with face rig setups, C++/Maya API, and plugins.
  • Experience with 3DS Max & Blender.
  • Experience with motion capture pipelines.
