Creative Assembly is looking for a highly experienced Senior Motion Capture Technician to act as a senior technical specialist and craft authority, driving robust motion capture and animation technology solutions across our projects. This is a hands-on senior role responsible not only for the delivery of high-quality motion capture data, but also for solving complex animation technology challenges related to performance capture, data quality, and downstream integration. You will play a key role in ensuring motion capture solutions scale effectively across projects and continue to meet evolving creative and technical needs.

Working closely with animation, technical animation, direction, and external partners, you will help define and implement practical, production-ready animation technology solutions, ensuring captured performances translate efficiently and reliably into high-quality in-game animation. As a senior craft authority, you will also contribute to the evaluation and evolution of motion capture and animation technologies, helping Creative Assembly remain informed of future-looking solutions that can meaningfully improve quality, efficiency, and creative outcomes, while remaining grounded in real production requirements. This is a hybrid role. We’re looking for someone who can be in the Horsham studio 3 days per week to collaborate closely with the team and stay connected to on-site workflows.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Lead and operate motion capture shoots, including preparation, calibration, execution, and on-set troubleshooting.
  • Own the technical quality of captured data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
  • Process, clean, and deliver motion capture data that is robust and ready for downstream animation pipelines.
  • Work closely with animation, technical animation, and direction teams to interpret creative requirements and translate them into effective capture solutions.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for motion capture, providing trusted technical guidance and judgement across projects.
  • Maintain and evolve motion capture tools, pipelines, and workflows to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with external vendors or partners, reviewing and validating delivered motion capture data where required.
  • Mentor and support junior motion capture technicians, contributing to team capability and best practices.
  • Stay informed of emerging motion capture and animation technologies, assessing their relevance and practical value to Creative Assembly’s productions.
  • Work with animation and technical leadership to workflows, supporting continuous improvement in quality, reliability, and efficiency.

What we are looking for:

Essential

  • Extensive professional experience as a Motion Capture Technician within games, film, or animation.
  • Strong technical expertise with optical motion capture systems, hardware, and software.
  • Proven experience delivering production-ready animation technology solutions related to performance capture and data processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to run complex capture shoots independently and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of animation principles and performance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
  • A proactive, detail-focused approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for quality.

Desirable

  • Experience acting as a senior technical authority within motion capture, animation technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience contributing to the evolution of animation or capture pipelines, standards, or studio-wide best practices.
  • Experience working on large-scale or long-running franchise titles.
  • Experience with facial capture, props, weapons, or complex interaction setups.
  • An interest in future-looking motion capture technologies, balanced with strong production awareness.
  • Experience working with external motion capture vendors or outsourcing partners.
