The Role

Creative Assembly is looking for a motivated and collaborative AI Designer to join the award-winning Total War team based at our studio in Horsham, West Sussex. We’re looking for someone who embraces guiding talented multidisciplinary teams to deliver engaging gameplay within our unique blend of turn-based campaigns and real-time battles. This is an in-studio position with flexibility on ad hoc working from home.

As a Game AI Designer you will design, setup and balance the game AI’s features and behaviours, as well as the difficulty level on the game’s turn-based Campaign side. You will work closely with the AI Programmers, AI Designers and Game Designers, ensuring there is collaboration between these departments, whilst following the game’s vision set out by the Game Director.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and implement game AI and other game features while collaborating with other departments to make sure we create the best possible gameplay experience for players
  • Be a proactive and creative driver of game AI development to collaboratively solve problems whilst keeping in touch with relevant stakeholders
  • Document your designs, demonstrate how they will create great gameplay and meaningful choices
  • Evaluate and finetune AI behaviour using in-house tools
  • Build up a holistic view of the game and balance its difficulty level

What we are looking for

  • Experience in AI Design or Game Design
  • Experience in game balancing
  • A gamer to the core who is up-to-date with modern game trends
  • Passionate about game AI and a keen interest in games development overall
  • Ability to think from the player’s perspective
  • Excellent communicator, with good written skills
  • Enjoys complex problem solving while collaborating with others
  • Experience in working on strategy titles
  • Experience in data analysis
  • Experience in scripting or programming
  • Previous experience in modding
  • Deep knowledge of PC turn-based strategy games
