We are looking to appoint an assertive and enthusiastic person who is reliable, trustworthy and hardworking to work as a key member of our site team. The successful candidate will be highly self‑motivated, skilled, and have proven technical ability with relevant experience. Job Overview
Under the direction of the Site Manager and in line with school policies, the Caretaker will attend to a wide range of duties and responsibilities related to the fabric and grounds of the school.
Summary of Main Duties
- Maintain the appearance of the site in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
- Carry out repairs to school equipment as agreed with the Site Manager.
- Execute works to improve the site as directed by the Site Manager.
- Perform general repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, and decorating.
- Maintain school grounds, flower beds, and sports pitches.
- Support operation and maintenance of the 3G sports field.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of all external hard areas to a high standard.
- Carry out internal/external window cleaning where required.
- Ensure the security of the site at all times.
- Unlock the site in preparation for the operational day and lock it down at the end of the day.
- Manage lettings, setting up rooms as required.
- Act as “banksman” for all deliveries onto school premises.
- Carry out portage, delivery and furniture movement as directed by the Site Manager.
- Act as Fire Marshall.
- Drive the school minibus for school purposes when directed.
- Supervise external contractors on site.
- Undertake general cleaning duties internally and externally for a safe and hygienic environment.
- Work as part of a team, appreciating and supporting the roles of other members.
External Maintenance
- Ensure regular litter patrols are undertaken.
- Empty litter bins daily across all sites.
- Clear leaves, snow, ice, moss and detritus, treating surfaces with salt as needed.
- Clean and clear drains and gullies for healthy operation.
- Remove or obscure graffiti on the exterior.
- Identify damage, vandalism, and wear and report to the Site Manager.
- Remove hazardous materials, including emergency cleaning of spillages.
- Carry out simple repairs to building fabric, e.g., replace fallen UPVC trim, damaged paving, fencing.
Internal Maintenance
- Maintain regular check and control of litter around the interior.
- Repair fixtures and fittings such as desks, tables, chairs, toilets, and basins.
- Prepare rooms for decoration, adhering to health and safety and lifting regulations.
- Redecorate areas as instructed, following safety regulations.
- Remove graffiti and gum from fixtures, furniture, and buildings.
- Maintain high standards of staff and student toilet facilities.
- Assist with moving school furniture/equipment within regulations.
- Remove hazardous materials and conduct emergency cleaning of spillages.
- Take deliveries of goods and transport to relevant areas as required.
- Suggest improvements for buildings and site benefits.
Local Procedures
- Participate in staff reporting, appraisal, and training.
- Adhere to all local procedures within the school.
- Ensure Health and Safety practices are followed.
