Senior Trade Accountant to join SEFE’s UK Trade Accounting team in London where you will play a key role in supporting our commodity trading teams.
IN SHORT
We are looking for a Senior Trade Accountant to join SEFE’s UK Trade Accounting team in London where you will play a key role in supporting our commodity trading teams.
You will work closely with a specific business unit and ensure that the month end close process is managed to a tight schedule. With multi-million-pound balances to close you will use your passion for data and expertise in analytics to quickly investigate anomalies, identify the route cause, and successfully close the ledger.
The remainder of the month will be assigned to supporting new front office initiatives and the commercial change process, where you will work with a variety of stakeholders to deliver robust new accounting processes for new markets, products and commodities, aligned to IFRS standards.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will be aligned to a key Trading Business Unit and will use your technical knowledge and problem-solving ability to:
- Use your comprehensive understanding of underlying trading activity and the derivatives/commodity contracts used, to ensure monthly trading balances in SAP ERP, comply with both IFRS and SEFE Trading Group Accounting Policies.
- Reconcile legal entity results in SAP ERP, for at least one trading desk and/or legal entity, to Middle Office produced monthly estimates, investigating all material differences and ensure reporting obligations are met.
- Own the monthly preparation of key financial data and business commentary for your business unit, explaining changes in derivative and other key trading balances.
- Contribute to continued enhancement of local and parent company chart of accounts, as well as its ongoing application to SEFE’s trading activities, operated in SAP ERP.
- Contribute to overall data management, ensuring that all logic, mapping tables and GL assignments are maintained and validated within the ETRM to SAP interface layer. Support improvement projects to improve and simplify such logic, in line with department objectives.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
You will be a chartered accountant, audit trained with hands-on experience of working within, or supporting, a physical commodity trading business. You will demonstrate an understanding of derivative financial netting, with an understanding of both the IFRS rules followed and its application challenges, and have experience substantiating foreign currency transactions in SAP, including realised and unrealised gains and losses on revaluation and cash clearing.
You will bring a strong working knowledge of MS Excel and be at ease manipulating large data sets.
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong stakeholder management experience with the ability to engage both internal and external audiences. Understanding of front, middle and back office responsibilities in a derivative trading organisation is key.
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to quickly build trust with senior stakeholders in non-finance functions.
- The ability to work on own initiative as well as being an effective member of a team.
- Accuracy and attention to detail whilst delivering against challenging deadlines.
- A proactive and decisive mindset.
