A Senior QA Engineer plays a critical role in the software development lifecycle, ensuring that business-critical applications meet required standards of quality, reliability, and user acceptance. They take ownership of test strategy and quality assurance across multiple workstreams, working closely with development teams, business stakeholders, and third parties to ensure that quality objectives are embedded throughout delivery. The role requires a deep understanding of the business applications under test, the ability to define and maintain quality standards, and the judgement to prioritise testing effort based on business risk and regulatory requirements.
What Will You Do
- A strong background in test strategy, quality ownership, and cross-team collaboration ensures that quality is embedded throughout the delivery lifecycle. This includes defining standards, managing quality systems, and aligning test coverage to business priorities and risk.
- Test Strategy & Ownership: Defining and owning test strategies; leading test planning, estimation, coordination, and providing direction to other QAs on priorities and coverage.
- Quality Assurance & Control: Ensuring products meet required quality standards; implementing and enforcing quality control processes; owning quality gates in the delivery pipeline.
- Defining Quality Standards: Establishing and maintaining quality standards aligned to organisational and business needs; ensuring consistent adoption across the team.
- Managing Quality Systems: Setting up, maintaining, and improving QA systems such as ADO Test Plans, test suites, and regression packs.
- Analysing Data & Reporting: Collecting and analysing testing data to identify trends and improvements; reporting insights with clear recommendations; using dashboards and metrics to demonstrate quality and progress.
- Collaborating with Development Teams: Working closely with developers, BAs, and other team members to embed quality throughout the lifecycle; promoting shift-left practices.
- Business Application Alignment: Understanding business context, data flows, and user impact; ensuring test coverage reflects business priorities, regulatory requirements, and operational risk.
- Test Design & Execution: Creating detailed and structured test plans and test cases; executing tests and ensuring traceability and alignment to business risk.
What Will You Bring
- A strong background across Testing (TEST), Quality Management (QUMG), Quality Assurance (QUAS), Software Development (PROG), Data Analysis (DTAN), Change Management (CHMG), Problem Management (PBMG), and Business Process Improvement (BPRE) ensures effective oversight of complex technical deliveries.
- This combined skill set supports rigorous test governance, continuous improvement, and strong collaboration across development and delivery teams.
- Additional key points include:
- Non-functional testing, performance testing, and OAT.
- Awareness of application architectures, system dependencies, and deployment pipelines to understand how technical changes affect test scope.
- Strong analytical skills for breaking down complex systems and diagnosing root causes.
- Effective communication with developers, PMs, and stakeholders to collaborate on issue resolution.
- Proven experience leading QA across multiple concurrent workstreams/projects.
- Extensive manual testing experience including test pack creation, regression, and defect management.
- Experience testing complex enterprise applications (ERP, trading, billing, operational, etc.).
- Strong understanding of the SDLC and working embedded within delivery teams.
- Experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) for test management (test plans, suites, cases, work item linking, dashboards).
- Experience defining and implementing test strategies aligned to business risk and regulatory requirements.
