We’re recruiting a Careers Adviser to join our In‑Custody Information, Advice and Guidance team. If you’re passionate about helping people, we’d love to hear from you! Working in custody, you’ll support participants by providing career advice and guidance and helping them explore learning and employment options in preparation for life in the community. You’ll use a variety of delivery methods, including coordinating job fairs or sector‑specific talks, visits from employers or motivational speakers. You’ll need excellent communication skills to encourage participant engagement and build positive relationships. You’ll also help build confidence and break down barriers. This role requires a Level 4 CIAG (Careers, Information, Advice & Guidance) qualification. If you don’t currently hold this, we are able to support you through the qualification once you’re in post. Our ideal candidate will have experience delivering careers advice and an engaging personality, comfortable working with a diverse group of people and providing a warm, welcoming experience while helping participants take their first steps back into learning or employment. Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of participants, supporting the achievement of personal and team targets
  • Provide careers advice and information, supporting participants to achieve work, learning and personal development goals
  • Deal with challenging situations in a professional and confidential manner
  • Ensure all information is recorded timely and accurately to the tracking system
  • Deliver employability workshops and coordinate careers events and relevant speaker visits

Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 4 qualification in Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance (or willingness to undertake)
  • Experience delivering careers advice to adults
  • Good working knowledge of the local labour market
  • Ability to use a range of Microsoft Office programs, including 365 products and modern digital technologies (e.g., Microsoft Teams)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop and sustain positive professional relationships

  • Location: HMP Channings Wood
  • Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Thursday 7:45 – 16:30 and Friday 7:45 – 12:15)
  • Contract: Permanent
