Mechatronics Engineer

Chichester, West Sussex, Working on-site

Are you looking to use your system development skills on technology with a real impact, in an environment where your expertise is truly valued?

As we scale our autonomous drone technology, we’re looking for an experienced Mechatronics Engineer who is keen to expand their expertise and be involved across the robotics hardware development process.

This role will suit you if you thrive on working across the full development lifecycle and get fulfilment from seeing your work evolve from concept to field-tested hardware that delivers excellent operational performance.

Autonomous drones are set to transform how we manage Critical National Infrastructure, delivering asset inspections and monitoring at scale. At sees.ai, we\’re a team of software engineers, hardware engineers, and operations professionals building the system that makes this future a reality. Our system is ensuring the safe and effective operation of highly advanced drones flown from a central control room, unlocking the full commercial potential of drone technology.

We’ve already made significant progress in securing regulatory approval to make this future a reality. To achieve this we are actively testing and deploying our drones in the field, giving the engineering team critical feedback to close the development loop through year round testing in both local and remote locations.

The Role

As Mechatronics Engineer, you will spearhead the development of mission-critical systems as part of our collaborative Integration Team. You will be driving innovation in the hardware that powers the next generation of autonomous drones.

Your work will directly impact the reliability and performance of our autonomous drones, from integrating cutting-edge sensors, to refining core systems that solve real-world infrastructure challenges.

Reporting to the Integration Manager, and working alongside our engineers and technicians, the successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of areas related to the assembly of our autonomous sensor payload to our drones.

You’ll join a highly skilled, collaborative team that thrives on diverse perspectives and innovative problem-solving. Here, your expertise won’t just contribute, it will directly shape technology that’s on the cusp of a huge breakthrough.

What You’ll Do

  • Build/assembly of our drones to ensure a high quality final product. This includes lab management, inventory oversight, and maintaining rigorous quality standards for drone systems.

  • Electronic, electrical, and mechanical design to improve hardware reliability, simplify wiring, reduce integration complexity, and enhance durability.

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with engineers and technicians to test new components, validate algorithms, and troubleshoot issues encountered during flight operations.

  • Support Field Success: Work closely with the Operations team to validate systems during client demos, test-site deployments, and real-world inspections of Critical National Infrastructure.

You’ll bridge the gap between R&D and operations, ensuring the hardware you design and build translates into drones that deliver unmatched performance. From hands-on soldering and prototyping, to PCB design and all the way to optimising production workflows, your contributions will shape technology that redefines how the world monitors vital national assets like power grids.

About you

  • Good understanding of electronic circuit principles and experience of PCB layout.

  • Electrical and mechanical design knowledge.

  • Exposure to testing methodology, analysis, and reporting.

  • Wiring and soldering experience.

  • Interest in robotics or electro-mechanical systems.

  • Comfortable in finding practical solutions with a hands-on approach to problem solving.

  • Self-motivation and adaptability.

  • Degree in relevant field or equivalent experience (e.g. HNC/HND and work experience on complex projects).
