Dementia Care Manager
HELP US SHAPE DEMENTIA CARE AT WENDOVER MANOR.
Later this year, Salveo Care will openWendover Manor, our new purpose-built 55-bed care home in Wendover, including a dedicated specialist dementia service.
We're looking for an experienced Dementia Care Manager to join us ahead of opening and play a key role in commissioning and developing the service. We're looking for someone with strong dementia expertise and proven care leadership experience who can help us define what excellent dementia care should look like at Wendover Manor and then lead delivery in practice.
About the role
Working alongside ourmanagement team, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and quality of our specialist dementia service, while acting as dementia practice lead across the wider home.
Ahead of opening, you'll be involved in developing the service: helping to recruit and build your team, establishing ways of working, contributing to assessments and care pathways, developing dementia practice and ensuring the environment supports the people who will live within it. Once open, you'll:
- Lead, manage and develop the dementia care team, setting clear expectations for quality, practice and performance.
- Maintain oversight of care planning, assessment, risk, medication, safeguarding and quality within the service.
- Lead the continued development of person-centred, evidence-based dementia practice, including structured observation and other approaches where appropriate.
- Support positive approaches to complex and changing needs, balancing safety with independence, choice and positive risk-taking.
- Contribute specialist dementia expertise to pre-admission assessments and decisions about how individual needs can best be supported.
- Coach and develop colleagues, building dementia knowledge and confidence across the home.
- Work closely with residents, families and health and social care professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
- Continually review the quality of the service, identifying opportunities to improve residents' experience and the practice of the team.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You’ll have significant experience supporting people living with dementia, alongside experience leading or managing a care team. You'll have strong practical knowledge of dementia care and a good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding, care planning and relevant regulatory requirements.
We're looking for someone who is warm, confident and knowledgeable, but also positive and solution-focused. Someone who looks beyond a diagnosis, is curious about what a person may be communicating and balances safety with independence, choice and positive risk-taking.

Required Criteria
- Significant experience supporting people living with dementia within a care or health setting.
- Proven experience in leading, supervising, or managing a care team.
- Strong knowledge and practical understanding of person-centred dementia care.
- Good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding, care planning, risk assessment and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Must hold a relevant Adult Social Care, Leadership & Management and/or Dementia specific qualification.
- Strong leadership skills with the confidence to set expectations, develop others, and address poor practice.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Organised and accountable, with the ability to maintain effective oversight of care quality and team performance.
Desired Criteria
- Experience using evidence-based dementia care approaches, such as Dementia Care Mapping.
- A calm, positive, and solution-focused approach, especially when responding to complex situations.
- Experience working collaboratively with GPs and other healthcare professionals.
- Observant and curious, with an ability to look beyond behaviour to understand resident communication.
