The Role
The General Assistant role at Healthcare Ireland is a blended role, working with the Housekeeping and Kitchen team to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Home.
The General Assistants in our Homes play a key role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our kitchens, housekeeping and laundry functions, ensuring that residents receive high-quality meals and have a clean environment. The role is essential in the wellbeing of our residents through the provision of high-quality, person-centred surroundings.
Working as part of the Kitchen and Housekeeping team, reporting to the Housekeeper and Chef, the role is about a lot more than preparing and serving meals and cleaning – the General Assistant will support with ensuring the dietary needs of our residents are met in addition to contributing to a clean and tidy environment for our residents.
About the role
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure the expected standards are achieved throughout the home
- Cover domestic, kitchen and laundry duties – training in all 3 areas provided
- Identify and report any damage, faults or other issues to maintenance or management
- Adhere to the cleaning and auditing schedule
- Use and store cleaning products in accordance to COSHH regulations
- Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Home Manager.

Required Criteria
- To be numerate and literate with a good standard of English
- The Right to Work in the UK
- Have basic knowledge of COSHH, Health and Safety, Fire and Security Regulations
- Previous experience in relevant role
Desired Criteria
- Relevant work experience in a care home/ healthcare environment
- Previous experience gained in a domestic, laundry or kitchen environment
