AECOM’s commercial function is designed to link the operational requirements of the business with the key corporate functions such as finance, legal and risk. In your new role as Project Commercial Manager, you will play a crucial role in enhancing project commercial outcomes and driving commercial best practice and learning. By leveraging your expertise in consultancy, engineering construction contracts, programme, and change management, you will support and uplift project managers (PMs) in commercial matters. This includes mitigating risks, managing change, minimising lost margin and fostering commercial best practices to boost project performance and client satisfaction.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager of Water and working under the direction of the Business Unit Operations Director and commercial team, your responsibilities will span across multiple projects and Frameworks. Here’s what you’ll do:
- Collaborate: Assisting PMs, Project Directors, and Lead Verifiers in the commercial management of projects to ensure successful delivery.
- Provide Expertise: Applying your knowledge of contract and risk management to enhance project performance, focusing on critical aspects including contract communications, change management, programme, delay damages, key contract dates and insurances. Carry out detailed analyses of challenged projects and report on the issues and findings from both a commercial and finance compliance perspective.
- Ensure Quality: Using contract administration platforms such as CEMAR and Asite to oversee and act on client communications and instructions. Ensure changes are managed rigorously with a focus on the commercial implications of change and management of commercial risk and opportunity generally.
- Oversee: Participating in project reviews, commercial discussions with clients and suppliers, and ensuring the execution of action items. Oversee preparation of subcontract documents to ensure a back-to-back position.
- Mentor: Coaching technical staff to heighten their commercial awareness and expertise.
- Deliver: Working to reduce disallowed costs and efficiently manage expenditures from AECOM and its subcontractors/subconsultants/supply chain. Contributing to the development of Go/No-Go approval documents for new projects or significant changes to existing projects.
Scope of projects:
- Water Treatment Plants: Designing and constructing facilities for treating drinking water to ensure it meets safety and quality standards.
- Wastewater Treatment Plants: Developing systems for treating wastewater to remove contaminants before it is released back into the environment.
- Flood Risk Management: Implementing flood defense systems, including levees, floodwalls, and stormwater management solutions to protect communities from flooding.
- Water Supply Systems: Planning and constructing infrastructure for the distribution of clean water, including pipelines, reservoirs, and pumping stations.
- Hydraulic Modelling: Using advanced software to simulate water flow and optimize the design of water-related infrastructure.
- River and Coastal Engineering: Enhancing and protecting riverbanks and coastlines through erosion control, habitat restoration, and sustainable development practices.
- Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS): Designing and implementing systems to manage urban runoff and reduce the impact on natural water bodies.
- Desalination Projects: Developing facilities to convert seawater into potable water, addressing water scarcity in arid regions.
- Water Resource Management: Creating strategies for the sustainable management of water resources, including conservation, allocation, and quality monitoring.
- Irrigation Systems: Designing efficient irrigation systems to support agriculture and optimize water use.
