We are seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant to join our growing Consulting Division in Newmarket. This is an exciting new role created to support our expanding operations in the region. You will assist the Principal Consultant to provide cradle-to-grave project management for environmental projects, including all aspects of fieldwork data gathering, designing remedial scopes, risk assessment, factual and interpretive reporting and invoicing. The role is based in our Newmarket office but also requires flexibility to visit various sites throughout the region. You will assist to manage project budgets and invoicing while ensuring projects are delivered in a timely manner in line with client service level agreements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management
    • Provide start-to-end project management for environmental claims projects from inception to completion, with assistance from the Regional Manager.
    • Manage project budgeting and invoicing, ensuring deadlines and targets are met in line with client service level agreements.
    • Gather robust fieldwork data and ensure quality standards are maintained.
    • Work with our inhouse Contracting division to oversee subcontractors and remediation operatives throughout project delivery.
    • Monitor project progress and ensure all milestones and deliverables are achieved.
  • Technical Delivery
    • Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Investigations.
    • Complete factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk-based and intrusive) with assistance from the regions Principal Consultant.
    • Develop towards writing technically sound and commercially focused proposals, scopes, and reports.
    • Undertake environmental risk assessments in accordance with current legislation and best practice.
    • Ensure all technical work meets required standards and client expectations.
  • Client and Stakeholder Relations
    • Maintain project communication on technical and commercial levels with a diverse range of clients, regulators, and site owners.
    • Build and develop strong client relationships through professional and responsive service.
    • Interact effectively with clients and the public, representing the company professionally.
  • Health, Safety and Compliance
    • Observe all health, safety and environment rules and procedures.
    • Ensure all projects are fully compliant with current and emerging environmental legislation, with assistance from inhouse Contracting division and Regional Managers.
    • Maintain accurate and complete project documentation and records.
    • Follow company procedures and industry best practices at all times.
  • Team Development
    • Support junior team members in their professional development.
    • Share knowledge and expertise to strengthen the wider team capability.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

  • Essential Requirements
    • Minimum 2 years of proven experience as an Environmental Consultant.
    • Insight into Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment.
    • Demonstrated experience completing factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk-based and intrusive).
    • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or natural science related discipline (e.g., Geology, Environmental Science, Physical Geography).
    • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
    • Understanding of current and emerging environmental legislation.
    • Excellent organisational, time-management, analytical and numerical skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication and written skills, with the confidence to interact effectively with clients and the public.
    • Self-starting ability with problem‑solving skills and sound judgement.
  • Desirable
    • Experience in insurance-related environmental work.
    • Background in contaminated land assessment and remediation.
