The predicted salary is between 37800 - 46200 £ per year.

Because of the nature of the work associated with this post, it is subject to special nationality rules and is restricted to individuals who are UK British Nationals.

Due to the nature of this project work, you will need to be office-based five days per week, or the equivalent number of days if working part-time.

Main Purpose of the Role

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary research team to model physical systems, develop robust algorithms for tasks such as path planning, navigation and data fusion, and translate theoretical concepts into real-world solutions for See Byte's customers worldwide.

Depending on your level of experience, you may contribute to algorithm development under the guidance of experienced colleagues or lead complex technical investigations, shape research direction, and provide technical leadership on projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and test algorithms related to sensor processing, data fusion, path optimisation, scheduling and physical modelling.
  • Build and analyse mathematical models of physical systems, sensors and autonomous behaviours.
  • Assess state-of-the-art literature and propose suitable algorithm investigations and development activities based on project requirements, scope and budget.
  • Collaborate with See Byte's software engineers and roboticists to understand requirements and integrate solutions into software products.
  • Work across the full development lifecycle, from proof-of-concept and prototype activities through to delivery of robust, trusted software products.
  • Use experimental data and user feedback to analyse system performance and refine models and algorithms.
  • Stay current with relevant developments in applied mathematics, machine learning, robotics and autonomous systems.
  • Present results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • For more experienced candidates, contribute to technical strategy, mentor colleagues and help shape See Byte's research and development roadmap.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Strong academic background in mathematics, physics, engineering or a related discipline (BSc, MSc or Ph D).
  • Good understanding of statistics, linear algebra, probability, optimisation and machine learning techniques.
  • Experience developing algorithms, numerical methods or physical simulations.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language used for scientific computing and prototyping, such as Python, MATLAB or R.
  • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git and collaborative software development practices.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable

  • Experience developing machine learning models, particularly in reinforcement learning or computer vision.
  • Experience with robotics or autonomous systems, including path-planning problems or ROS.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices, including testing, documentation and continuous integration.
  • Working knowledge of C/C++.
  • Experience leading technical work, mentoring colleagues or delivering complex research and development projects.
