A specialist contractor operating across bulk earthworks, remediation and enabling works is seeking an experienced Site Manager to lead the delivery of large-scale earthworks and brownfield regeneration schemes across the UK. This is a hands-on, operational leadership role requiring strong site presence, excellent coordination of plant and labour, and a clear focus on safety, programme, quality and environmental compliance. The successful candidate will take full ownership of site operations, working closely with Project and Contracts Managers to deliver complex works safely and efficiently. This opportunity would suit an established Site Manager or Senior Supervisor with a strong background in earthworks and remediation, looking to work for a growing specialist contractor with a strong project pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Leadership & Delivery
- Manage day-to-day site operations across bulk earthworks, remediation, excavation and enabling works packages.
- Lead and coordinate plant operators, subcontractors and direct labour to achieve productivity and programme targets.
- Chair daily briefings, toolbox talks and site coordination meetings.
- Support the Project Manager with short-term planning, sequencing and progress reporting.
- Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Drive a strong safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and internal HSQE systems.
- Implement and monitor environmental controls including water management, dust suppression, stockpile control and contamination protocols.
- Manage incident reporting, investigations and close-out of corrective actions.
- Ensure works are delivered in line with environmental permits and remediation strategies.
- Technical & Operational Control
- Oversee cut and fill operations, material segregation, compaction and volumetric control.
- Manage remediation activities including contaminated soil excavation, validation sampling, hotspot removal, bioremediation and stabilisation / solidification works.
- Coordinate testing regimes including MCERTS, compaction, geotechnical and in-situ density testing.
- Monitor plant utilisation, cycle times and productivity, driving operational efficiency.
- Quality Assurance & Site Records
- Ensure works comply with method statements, specifications and ITPs.
- Maintain accurate site records including daily diaries, plant logs, testing records and photographic evidence.
- Work closely with Engineers and Surveyors to verify GPS models, surveys and as-built information.
- Client & Stakeholder Interface
- Represent the contractor professionally during progress meetings, site inspections and audits.
- Communicate programme progress, risks, constraints and performance metrics.
- Support commercial processes including early warnings, variation identification and site-based records.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Essential Experience
- Proven experience managing bulk earthworks and remediation projects as a Site Manager or Senior Supervisor.
- Strong understanding of earthworks methodologies, cut/fill processes, plant operations and material classifications.
- Practical experience delivering remediation works, including excavation, validation and treatment processes.
- Excellent knowledge of CDM regulations, environmental compliance and safe systems of work.
- Ability to read drawings, manage subcontractors and collaborate with engineering and commercial teams.
- Confident user of digital site management and record-keeping systems.
- Preferred Qualifications & Knowledge
- SMSTS, CSCS (Manager), First Aid at Work.
- Experience on major brownfield regeneration or remediation schemes.
- Familiarity with GPS-controlled plant (Trimble / Topcon).
- Working knowledge of CL:AIRE, WM3 waste classification, chemical testing and environmental permitting.
