We are recruiting for a Senior Survey Engineer to support delivery of a major earthworks package on the HS2 programme near Banbury, Oxfordshire. This is a key role for an experienced Survey Engineer with a strong background in bulk earthworks, survey control, QA/compliance, and managing survey requirements across multiple work fronts. You will work closely with engineering and site teams to ensure all setting out, verification, and as-built records are delivered accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Survey Control & Setting Out (Earthworks Focused)
- Lead survey control and setting out for bulk earthworks including:
- cut & fill
- formation levels
- batter lines / slopes
- haul roads / access routes
- working platforms / piling mats
- Establish and maintain site control networks, benchmarks and calibration records. Ensure survey accuracy and tolerances are maintained across site operations.
- Manage and produce as-built surveys and check surveys for quality assurance and handover.
- Provide survey verification and reporting to support engineering sign-off.
- Identify discrepancies early and work with delivery teams to resolve issues quickly.
- Maintain survey records, QA documentation, and compliance outputs for project assurance.
- Process survey data and produce deliverables for site engineering teams: survey reports.
- CAD outputs / drawings (where required).
- Progress and verification packs.
- Support volume calculations and monitoring where required (earthworks progress / quantities).
- Liaise with Engineers, Agents, Foremen and subcontractors to coordinate survey priorities.
- Support and mentor junior surveyors / engineers as required.
- Plan and manage survey workload to keep delivery moving efficiently.
- Assist with survey planning, sequencing, and interfaces across work packages.
- Drive strong H&S standards and ensure safe use of equipment in live site environments.
- Follow site procedures and ensure survey operations align with project controls.
- GPS / GNSS and Total Station equipment (Leica / Trimble).
- Survey processing / CAD software such as Trimble, AutoCAD, LSS (or similar).
Candidate Requirements
- Essential (Non-Negotiable)
- Proven experience as a Survey Engineer / Engineering Surveyor on earthworks projects.
- Strong knowledge of bulk earthworks surveying and setting out methodology.
- Confident running survey control, verification and tolerance checks.
- Strong capability producing as-built and QA survey deliverables.
- Comfortable working across multiple crews/work fronts in a fast-paced environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Desirable
- Major infrastructure experience (HS2 / highways / rail / large civils frameworks).
- Exposure to machine control / digital terrain modelling.
- Ability to support/lead survey resource planning across packages.
