Job Location: West Midlands & South West
Job Type: Permanent
Remuneration: Competitive salary taking into account skills, experience and qualifications
From site to solution—Sedgwick is hiring a Surveyor/Adjuster to manage latent defect claims across the West Midlands & South West.
Sedgwick is looking to recruit a Surveyor/Adjuster to join our highly successful and specialist Structural Defects Services team, covering the West Midlands and South West (M5 corridor) region.
This is a combined role for experienced surveyors and loss adjusters, offering a varied and rewarding workload. You’ll manage a portfolio of structural and latent defect claims across commercial, residential, and multi-unit properties on a “cradle to grave” basis. From attending site visits and assessing damage, to diagnosing the likely cause of defects and producing preliminary reports, you’ll be involved at every stage. You’ll oversee reinstatement works, appoint external engineers to develop scopes of repair, review those scopes for accuracy and completeness, and produce final reports. The role also involves reviewing technical documentation and providing expert advice to both claimants and insurers.
In addition to your core responsibilities, you may also support the wider Commercial Surveying & Design team, undertaking more traditional surveying tasks such as contract administration, preparing repair scopes, and managing tendering processes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a collaborative environment while enjoying the flexibility of a home-based role with regional travel.
The skills you will have when you apply:
- Preferred Qualifications: Relevant degree, appropriate chartered status such as MCIOB, MRICS, MICE, and ideally an insurance qualification.
- Structural Defects Knowledge: In-depth understanding of structural issues affecting buildings.
- Claims Experience: Proven track record in handling and concluding claims under Building Guarantee or Latent Defects Policies.
- Damage Diagnosis: Ability to assess and identify causes of damage in domestic and commercial properties.
- Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with CDM regulations and Party Wall legislation.
- Repair Techniques: Knowledge of appropriate repair methods for damaged buildings.
- Decision-Making & Service: Strong decision-making skills, commitment to excellent customer service, and empathetic communication.
- Remote Working Ability: Capable of managing workload independently while collaborating with a remote team.
- Travel Readiness: Willingness to travel frequently to visit policyholders and claimants.
- Driving Licence: Possession of a full UK driving licence is essential.
- Composure & Empathy: Ability to remain calm under pressure, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- IT Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
What we’ll give you for this role:

- Flexible working from our office or your home
