About the role

Our Family team advises high net worth clients on a full range of contentious family matters. Our matters are often complex and require sensitive and professional management from our team. The team comprises of 3 Partners, a Senior Associate, two Associates, Solicitor and two paralegals. We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic and proactive Paralegal to join our busy team, providing support in all areas of the department, demonstrating a sensitive and pragmatic approach to fulfil our clients' needs.

Key Tasks:

  • To time record all family paralegal work accurately within Proclaim (practice management system).
  • Preparing electronic hearing bundles using PDF docs.
  • Preparing cost estimates.
  • Preparing file index and collating files for court.
  • Completion of Form E’s (under supervision of a lawyer).
  • Liaising with clients / updating clients through letters and/or e-mails.
  • Assisting with credit control procedures for the team.
  • Assist with asset schedules when exchanging Form E’s for the team.
  • Assist with file opening ensuring compliance with the firm's procedures and AML and KYC rules.
  • To maintain electronic files, ensuring that all correspondence and relevant paper is correctly saved and filed.
  • Assisting with legal research for the team as required.
  • Maintain regular calendar entries for client matters, communicating to relevant fee earners any forthcoming deadlines.
  • Provide support to other Family Fee-Earners, where work is marked as urgent and there is no other support available to complete this work.
  • To coordinate and assist with any family marketing events, liaising with marketing as required.
  • To provide administrative support to the team.
  • To support marketing activities for the team, as and when required.
  • To complete any ad hoc duties as necessary for the effective completion of your role or as requested by another fee earner or manager.
  • Ensuring the policies and procedures of the firm as set in the office manual are implemented and carried out.
  • Ensuring you work within the overall objectives, policies and priorities determined by the partners.
  • To ensure the confidentiality of the clients or business of the firm.
  • To maintain professional and good relationships with clients.
  • To give help and assistance to other fee earners and secretaries across the firm when your individual workload is light or at any given time and you are requested to give such help and assistance.

Skills and experience:

  • 12 months of previous experience working within a fast-paced legal/professional services family team is essential.
  • Strong academic results including at least a 2:1 degree and has passed the LPC or SQE.
  • Experience of using practice management scheme is desirable, and knowledge of iManage would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (specifically Word, and Excel).
  • Excellent administration, organisational and prioritisation skills with ability to manage time efficiently.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Sensitive verbal and written communication skills.
