SED Services Ltd is a family run Organics Recycling and Haulage Business founded in 2005. Our farming roots established much earlier than this, and our business evolved from our arable and livestock farming enterprise into composting. Our Business is based from our Head Office in Wigan, where we operate a large Composting and Aggregate Recycling centre. We also operate two further composting sites, based in Formby and Kirkby, accepting hundreds of thousands of tons of waste for treatment. Our innovative processes allow us to produce High Quality certified composts and soils for both wholesale and retail outlets across the country. 2026 is a key year for our business as we have a purpose-built office and workshop under construction to be opened in the summer months. Now employing approx. 120 members of our team, the build is a welcome expansion for our business, allowing us to strengthen our place in the market.

Description of Role

SED Services Ltd are actively seeking a qualified HGV fitter / Mechanic to join our busy team. HGV experience is essential for this role and would suit a self-motivated, organised, conscientious individual.

Primary responsibilities would include:

  • Performing major and minor repairs to Class 1 & 2 Vehicles, arctic trailers, including walking floors, arctic tippers and low loader trailers, also repairs and servicing to other vehicles in the company fleet.
  • Maintaining fleet documentation regarding inspections and repairs with our transport department.
  • Performing scheduled inspections and general preventative maintenance such as tyre rotations, puncture repairs and servicing.
  • Organisation of 6 weekly inspections and in house brake tests.
  • Breakdown Repairs and vehicle insurance assessments.
  • MOT Preparation & taking to test centre.
  • Liaising with Transport Department and Senior management regarding fleet rotation and sustainability.
  • Overall Workshop Management.

Role Requirements

  • City and Guilds/ NVQ / IRTEC or Equivalent Qualifications.
  • Full UK Valid Driving Licence (Class 1 & 2).
  • Experience in working in a HGV Workshop Environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a wider team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Team Player, with excellent timekeeping and organisational skills.
  • Keen awareness of health and safety standards of vehicles.
  • Understanding of FORS recognition scheme that the business operates under.
  • Right to work Documentation.

The Role is offered with competitive rates of pay to be determined upon the successful candidate's experience with overtime rate. The business offers a company Pension Scheme, starting holiday entitlement of 28 days with time served incremental increases. Breakdown vehicle for use during business hours and Company Mobile phone. The role will be working from our new purpose-built workshop with onsite parking.
