The role
The UK faces growing cyber security threats. Our cyber team works quickly to analyse data and detect malicious activity that could harm national security. As a Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst you will support MI5’s cyber threat work and partner strategy, drawing on significant experience to identify, investigate and analyse threats that keep the UK safe.
Responsibilities
- Carry out network analysis and review network indicators and topologies.
- Apply knowledge of internet protocols, disk and memory forensics to analyse operating‑system artefacts, files and malware.
- Produce accurate reports and develop analytical or workflow capabilities.
- Collaborate with partners across government, finance and the wider public sector.
- Brief internal and external stakeholders using a variety of cyber tools.
About you
You do not need a specific degree, but you bring significant experience in cyber security, networking protocols, and data analysis, as well as network‑ or host‑based forensics. You have a background in threat analysis, SOC analysis, threat intelligence or similar. Preferred experience includes:
- Experience with forensic tools such as X‑Ways, FTK, EnCase.
- Experience with network and security analysis programmes including Elasticsearch, Splunk, Wireshark.
- Awareness of coding and programming to read and understand inputs.
- Strong analytical mindset, organised approach, and natural technical curiosity.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical subjects to non‑technical audiences.
Training and development
You will complete an organisation‑wide Induction Roadmap, meet key partners, customers and stakeholders, and engage in departmental induction and team rotations. You receive a yearly learning budget, personal learning days, access to internal and external training courses, mentoring and tailored support. Membership of the Cyber Technical Framework (CTF) is encouraged, with application and skills‑based assessment support.
