We’re Hiring: Explosives Detection Dog Handler
Location
Based at Chalkwell Kennels (NN10) but you\’ll also be required to cover sites in the London Heathrow area when needed.
Pay
£16.95 per hour
Hours
Working 40-hours per week – shifts can vary between days, nights and some weekends (sufficient notice will be given)

- You must also be able to home kennel your Securitas provided working dog, able to carefully monitor canine health and administer necessary care and have canine training experience, ideally within detection capabilities
Job Description
Purpose of the role
Explosives Detection Dog Handler (FREDDs) is responsible for delivering an explosives detection dog screening capability to the aviation sector as one of Securitas’ Protective Specialist Services. You will deliver a service in line with UK legislation, Dept for Transport regulations and Civil Aviation Authority & Securitas procedures to counter terrorist and/or criminal activity relating to aviation activities.
Your Responsibilities will include
- To screen cargo in accordance with UK regulations utilising technical & canine methods
- To maintain the operational capability of the FREDDs
- Conduct on the job training & continuation training
- Deploy when required in support of the wider business
- Produce and maintain records associated with FREDDs training
- Maintain rigid & documented control over all training aids
- To maintain a positive relationship with animals under your control
- Diarise all events and Incidents
- Manage customer requests to a satisfactory resolution and supply feedback to all relevant parties
- Be the lead on matters Health and Safety relating to the task, ensure the contracted site is compliant with all regulations
- To ensure compliance with British Standards, ACS requirements, Canine SOP’s
- To proactively promote and enhance the company name and reputation to a wide audience of existing customers and our service partners
- Responsible for ensuring that all incidents are reported in compliance with company policy and procedure
- Ensuring understanding and demonstrable implementation of the Values of Integrity; Vigilance and Helpfulness
Qualifications
What we’re looking for
Essential Skills
- Right to work in the UK with a 5-year checkable history
- Valid UK Driving Licence (must be a clean license with no endorsements) and live within a 50 minute commute to the site
- Able to home kennel your Securitas provided working dog
- Ability to work cooperatively in a Team environment and communicate with customers and colleagues at all levels
- Good observation skills and attention to detail, with good written and verbal communication
- Must have demonstrable experience working with animals in a professional capacity, able to carefully monitor canine health and administer necessary care
- Previous canine training experience, ideally within detection capabilities
- To have a positive, friendly attitude and a genuine love of dogs
What would be beneficial
