Job Description

The Opportunity

A growing, award-winning accountancy and tax practice in Thames Ditton is looking for an experienced personal tax professional to join its expanding tax team and take the next step in their career.

This is an excellent opportunity for a CTA qualified tax professional who enjoys working closely with clients, getting into the detail of tax and is ready to take on management responsibility.

You’ll manage your own portfolio of clients while also heading up a small team of tax return preparers, reviewing their work and supporting them with technical queries.

You’ll remain hands-on yourself, preparing a number of personal tax returns and providing practical advice to clients.

The practice works with a varied client base, from entrepreneurs and sole traders through to growing owner-managed businesses across a broad range of sectors.

It’s a friendly, supportive environment where people are encouraged to contribute ideas, take ownership and have a visible impact.

  • What you’ll be doing
  • Manage your own portfolio from start to finish, including client communication, file setup and oversight of tax return preparation and submission.
  • Review tax work completed by members of your team and other colleagues, ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Lead and support a small team, providing guidance, answering queries and helping less experienced team members develop.
  • Prepare personal tax returns yourself, maintaining a hands-on involvement in the work.
  • Provide tax advice to clients, including income tax planning, CGT and ad hoc personal tax queries.
  • Manage HMRC correspondence and enquiries, resolving issues efficiently on behalf of clients.
  • Improve systems and processes, helping maintain quality control and making the tax return preparation process as efficient as possible.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the tax department, including its services, processes, strategy and future growth.

About you

You’ll be a strong fit if you are

  • CTA qualified, with a strong grounding in personal tax.
  • Experienced in managing a portfolio of personal tax clients.
  • Confident and personable, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Comfortable reviewing work and supporting more junior members of a team.
  • Organised and process-minded, with an eye for detail and quality.
  • Ambitious, proactive and keen to take on greater responsibility.
  • Someone who enjoys working collaboratively rather than operating in a silo.
  • Interested in playing a genuine part in the growth and direction of a tax practice.

What’s on offer?

  • Competitive salary.
  • Full-Time or Part-Time working options.
  • Genuine flexibility around working hours, the focus is on outcomes rather than simply being at your desk for set hours.
  • The opportunity to shape your role and develop it around your strengths and interests.
  • A supportive, close-knit team with regular CPD and knowledge sharing.
  • The opportunity to influence the future direction of the tax department, including services, strategy and recruitment.
  • A strong pipeline of referrals and opportunities to develop existing client relationships.
  • A clear opportunity to progress into senior leadership, niche specialism or potentially equity as the practice continues to grow.
