Why this role now
Our client is a product-led, distribution-focused business entering a critical phase of growth, international expansion and organisational transformation. With increasing scale, complexity and investment, finance is evolving from a strong operational engine into a forward-looking, value-driving strategic function. Backed by ambitious ownership and a growth-oriented Board, the business requires a commercial, technology-enabled CFO who can bring rigour, insight and challenge at executive level. This is a pivotal appointment that will shape decision-making, performance and future value creation. This role is not suitable for a first-time CFO. It requires an experienced FD/CFO who has operated at pace through growth, complexity and change, ideally within PE-backed, investor-led or exit-aware environments.
The role
As CFO, you will own the full finance agenda across strategy, performance, control and transformation. You will act as a trusted adviser to the CEO and Board, providing clear commercial insight, disciplined forecasting and robust financial governance, while remaining close to the detail. You will lead a sizeable, multi-disciplinary finance team and play a central role in ensuring the business is equipped with the systems, data, controls and insight required to scale internationally with confidence. This is a hands-on, visible leadership role combining operational grip with strategic foresight.
Key accountabilities
- Define and execute a finance strategy aligned to growth, international expansion and value creation
- Act as principal financial adviser to the CEO and Board, influencing strategic, operational and commercial decisions
- Lead robust forward-looking FP&A, forecasting and scenario modelling to support confident decision-making
- Full ownership of financial control, statutory reporting, audit, tax and compliance
- Oversee cashflow, working capital, revenue, pricing, margin and profitability across a distribution-led model
- Drive finance transformation through ERP, reporting, data and automation, enabling faster and better insight
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing finance team with clear accountability and capability
- Lead corporate finance activity including funding, capex, potential M&A, integrations or disposals
- Support international and US-facing growth, ensuring financial discipline, transparency and scalability
- Develop strong external relationships with investors, banks, advisors, auditors and professional partners
About you
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience
- Proven experience as a CFO or senior FD within a product-led, distribution or asset-backed environment
- Experience operating in PE-backed, investor-led or highly performance-driven businesses
- Exposure to international and/or US-facing operations, investors or reporting structures
- Strong track record in forward-looking forecasting, FP&A and commercial finance
- Highly systems-literate, with experience leading ERP and finance technology transformation
- Commercially astute, credible at Board level and comfortable challenging constructively
- Hands-on, resilient and composed, able to operate at pace and through ambiguity
