Cash Desk Volunteer – Teesside Hospice

Accountability: Deputy Head of Retail and Head of Retail

Location: Various across Teesside – Acklam, Coulby Newham, Great Ayton, Guisborough, Ingleby Barwick, Linthorpe, Marske, Norton, Redcar, Saltburn, Skelton, Stokesley, Thornaby, and Yarm.

Time Commitment: Shops generally open 9am to 4:30pm Monday to Saturday. Minimum of 2 hours per week preferred, discussed with Shop Manager.

DBS Check needed? No

Age Requirements: From 14 years old plus

Role Summary: As a volunteer cashier, you will be at the heart of our operations, engaging with customers, handling payments, and expressing gratitude to donors. Responsibilities include operating the till, answering customer inquiries, promoting Gift Aid, and collaborating with volunteers to ensure efficient operations. This is a customer-focused role with opportunities to make a positive impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging with customers and providing excellent service
  • Answering questions from customers, donors, and supporters
  • Collaborating with fellow volunteers to ensure efficient operations
  • Operating the till and handling payments
  • Assisting with administrative tasks and reception duties
  • Promoting Gift Aid
  • Implementing add-on sales strategies
