Second Steps Day Nursery is a well-established childcare provider with a history dating back to 1994, delivering high-quality early years care and education to families across Essex at our 6 nursery settings. Our Althorne setting is seeking a dedicated and passionate Qualified Nursery Practitioner (ideally Level 3 but we will welcome applications from Level 2 practitioners) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and a genuine love for working with children.
As a Nursery Practitioner, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children to learn and grow. You will be responsible for managing daily activities, fostering positive relationships with children, and ensuring their developmental needs are met. This role is for 40 hours per week - but a job share will be considered for the right candidate.
Duties:
- Provide high-quality care and education to children in the nursery setting.
- Plan and implement engaging activities that promote learning through play.
- Observe and assess children's progress, documenting their development accurately.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues to foster a supportive community.
- Manage daily routines, including mealtimes, nap times, and outdoor play.
- Ensure the nursery environment is safe, clean and always welcoming.
- Drive initiatives that encourage children's social skills, emotional development and independence.
- Exhibit leadership qualities by guiding junior staff and supporting their professional growth.
Experience:
- A qualification in Early Childhood Education or Childcare Level 2 or Level 3 is essential.
- Previous experience working with children in a nursery or similar setting is highly desirable.
- Experience in leading small groups of children or mentoring staff would be advantageous.
