Are you enthusiastic about working for a community enterprise, with excellent communication skills and a passion for customer service? We are looking for someone who can lead a small team of volunteer assistants in delivering excellent service to our customers.
Our community-owned village shop in Seaview is looking to recruit a part-time, weekday supervisor to a permanent post. The weekly hours are on Tuesday to Friday mornings, with 4 hours and 45 minutes daily, totalling 19 hours a week. There will be the possibility of additional hours by agreement on an ad-hoc basis. We pay the National Living Wage (currently £12.21 per hour).
Our shop opens at 8.30am and closes at midday, seven days a week. It reopens in the afternoons from 4pm to 6pm. In the winter we close on Sunday and Monday afternoons, and in August we open for an additional hour each afternoon. You will start work at 07.45am before the shop opens and finish after it closes by 12.30pm, to enable a range of tasks to be carried out. The times may vary slightly according to the season.
You will work closely with the Stock Control Supervisor and be ably supported by a team of volunteers each day, with between one and three volunteers present at any time. These volunteers are mostly already experienced in the shop's operations, although you will be expected to provide support to any new volunteers working on your shifts. You will also be responsible for managing the rota system during your time at work.
You will provide an excellent service to our customers, ensuring a friendly welcome and efficient service. You will ensure that the weekly deliveries from our main suppliers are correctly received, unpacked and stored and that all the shop's procedures are followed, either by carrying them out personally or by ensuring one of the volunteer team has carried them out.
You will oversee operation of the shop's ICR tills system and the completion of cashing-up routines at the conclusion of each shift. You will also be responsible for overseeing such regulated requirements as food-safety and alcohol sales.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate qualities of reliability and responsibility in overseeing a small but busy retail operation. Some previous retail sector experience is desirable, preferably with food and drink sales, though not essential. Experience of working with volunteers would also be an advantage. Satisfactory references must be provided.
Your application, with CV and a covering statement (500 words maximum) outlining why you are suitable for the role, should be sent to Justin Potter via email at justin.potter694@btinternet.com by Monday 1st December 2025. Please note: if we receive a high number of applications we may close the process early. Interviews will take place during the week of 8th – 12th December 2025, with the successful candidate starting work on Tuesday 6th January, shadowing the current incumbent as part of the handover process.
