An opportunity has arisen within our reception team for one full time or two part time team players with a 'can do' attitude who are looking to work in a busy but demanding environment. We are looking for team players that have commitment and hold excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The majority of the work will be telephone based which requires a skill set to efficiently deal with high call volumes whilst maintaining a pleasant and caring manner. The right applicants would also be providing general administrative assistance to our team of clinicians. The successful applicants should have a good understanding of IT and administration. Experience of working in a GP surgery or medical environment would be helpful but more importantly we are looking for enthusiasm, resilience and the ability to project a positive and friendly image to patients and others arriving at the Practice.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide excellent patient service, being the first point of contact for our patients and external organisations both at the front desk and over the telephone.
  • To deal with general enquiries and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Process prescriptions and general administrative duties involved within the office whilst assisting the team.
  • To communicate test results and be aware of and follow practice policies and procedures and support the clinical team as required.
  • To be flexible and support The Practice Manager, Team Leads and co-workers in the day-to-day running of the office and the Practice.

We are a busy team comprising of GP Partners, Salaried Doctors, an ANP, Nurses, Administrators and Reception team who work together to provide a good standard of care to our patients. We are a training Practice for medical students. We value all members of our practice team and their individual strengths that help deliver exceptional patient service.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide a first point of contact for patients and act as a point of communication between patients, doctors and other practice staff.
  • To ensure that accurate and appropriate patient information is collected and maintained.
  • Ensure efficiency of the appointment system and monitor availability.
  • Provide general assistance and support to the Practice clinical and non-clinical team with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to use own initiative and ability to prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment on a daily basis and be reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to work as a team player and hold a common sense approach with a non-judgemental attitude.
  • Good keyboard skills and an understanding of the principles of confidentiality in and out of the workplace.
  • An understanding of the importance of equal opportunities and diversity issues.
  • A motivation and commitment to working in the NHS and being involved in patient care.
  • To be able to care navigate patients to the most appropriate service to fulfil their needs.

The successful candidate will participate in any training programme implemented by the Practice as part of their employment and the Practice will support the candidates development whilst working within their defined role.

Person Specification

  • Essential: Experience in dealing with the public face to face and over the telephone. Resilience and ability to adapt to change.
  • Desirable: Experience in working within a General Practice or within primary care is desirable but not essential.
