Friendly Fridays is a community lounge open to all ages and abilities, located at the Rose Walker Community Center, 1 Essex Avenue, Cheadle, SK3 0JA. We offer a variety of activities, crafts, games and puzzles, with an unstructured approach: do what you like and stay as long as you please. All activities are free of charge. Volunteers work on a flexible basis. The centre opens to visitors at 10:00 am every Friday, and closes at 3:00 pm. We recommend volunteering from 8:30 am for set‑up, briefing at 9:30 am, and assisting with 12:00 pm lunch and 2:30 pm tidying. There is no obligation to complete a set number of hours; any time you can give is appreciated.

  • Manage the refreshments table
  • Welcome visitors and model positive behaviour during activities
  • Engage in friendly conversation with visitors
  • Take and serve lunch orders (teacakes or crumpets, all free)
  • Assist with setting up the room before opening and tidying it after closing

Every day may present new opportunities, and volunteer tasks can be adjusted to suit individual comfort and safety. You may decline any task that causes discomfort or risk. We do not require specific skills or background – we welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities. For accessibility, those who need a carer present are encouraged to bring one.

Interested volunteers may contact Katy Ollerenshaw. Closing date for applications: 01 April 2034. We look forward to your support in creating an inclusive, welcoming space.
