We’re working with a leading insurance organisation undergoing a major technology transformation programme. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Architect to join a highly skilled architecture function at the forefront of modernising enterprise systems across the insurance value chain.
In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in shaping and delivering architectural and technology strategy, with a strong focus on services-based architecture, API-led integration, event-driven design and agility. The organisation is actively embracing AI and automation, and you’ll help embed these capabilities across a complex, enterprise-scale technology landscape. You’ll provide senior technical leadership across critical applications, guiding teams through modern architecture challenges and helping to define future-state platforms.
What you’ll be doing:
- Contribute to and lead architectural efforts across solution design, technology roadmaps and architectural recommendations, supporting both strategic initiatives and delivery-focused programmes.
- Participate in architectural governance activities, including blueprinting and design reviews.
- Drive stability, performance and scalability across applications and technology domains.
- Work closely with fellow architects, engineering teams and wider technology stakeholders.
- Influence the adoption of modern architectural patterns, best practices and tooling.
- Contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives such as centres of excellence, proof-of-concepts, vendor and product evaluations.
- Support the ongoing execution of the organisation’s architectural strategy.
What we’re looking for:
- Strong experience across enterprise, application and information architecture, with a solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Broad technical background spanning modern and legacy technologies, including Java/J2EE, web application development, service-oriented and API-based architectures (REST, SOAP), middleware, relational databases and application integration.
- Experience in performance engineering, complex system design and working across multiple technologies and platforms.
- Exposure to the insurance sector is highly desirable, particularly within complex or regulated environments.
- Comfortable engaging with business stakeholders, translating requirements into technical solutions, and providing clear architectural guidance to delivery teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate in ambiguity and influence within matrixed organisations.
- Proven experience with modern architecture approaches, including cloud-native and SaaS platforms, API-first design, event-driven architectures, messaging systems and asynchronous integration patterns.
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on team success, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on architectural delivery.
