About the company
We're partnering with a growing fintech company based in Manchester that is modernising its platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You'll join a small, high-impact engineering team building secure, scalable cloud infrastructure to support new digital products.
The role
As a GCP Cloud Engineer, you will design, build and support cloud infrastructure on GCP, working closely with software engineering and security teams. You'll own key platform components, from compute and networking through to automation, observability and security controls.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and implementing scalable, secure infrastructure using core GCP services (Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, etc.).
- Managing and optimising existing GCP environments for performance, reliability and cost-efficiency.
- Building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments.
- Designing and operating GCP networking (VPCs, subnets, routing, Cloud NAT, load balancers, VPN, Cloud DNS) to ensure secure and resilient connectivity.
- Implementing and supporting security best practices, including IAM, service accounts, secrets management and controls for public-facing applications (e.g. WAF, firewalls).
- Setting up monitoring, logging and alerting to ensure high availability and rapid incident response.
- Collaborating with developers to design cloud-native solutions and provide guidance on GCP usage and patterns.
What we're looking for
- Commercial experience as a Cloud / GCP Engineer (or similar) working on production workloads in GCP.
- Strong hands-on experience with core GCP services (Compute, networking, storage, databases) and VPC networking concepts.
- Solid experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (preferably Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Good understanding of cloud security fundamentals (IAM, network security, encryption, security policies); WAF or application-security exposure is a plus.
- Comfortable troubleshooting distributed systems, performance issues and networking problems in a cloud environment.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a remote-first setup.
