About the Role:

Lead the engineering vision and execution for a pioneering AI platform at the forefront of technological innovation. Our client is building a groundbreaking AI platform, and they seek a strategic and hands-on Director of Engineering to guide the technical direction and drive the delivery of this critical project. As Director of Engineering, you will be instrumental in defining the architecture, technology stack, and development processes for the platform. You will lead a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a visionary leader who is passionate about AI and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the engineering strategy and roadmap for the AI platform, aligning with the company’s overall vision.
• Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
• Architectural Vision: Drive the architectural design and technology selection for the platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Technical Execution: Oversee the development and delivery of robust and scalable backend systems, APIs, and data processing solutions.
• Process Improvement: Establish and optimize engineering processes, including agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and code quality standards.
• Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate closely with product management, data science, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication.
• Technical Problem Solving: Provide technical leadership and guidance in resolving complex technical challenges.
• Talent Acquisition: Attract, recruit, and retain top engineering talent.
• Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee the management of cloud infrastructure (ideally GCP), ensuring optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Greenfield Project Leadership: Be a key decision maker in the greenfield project, and help set the technological direction from the very start.

Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience as a Director of Engineering or senior engineering leader in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
• Extensive experience in backend development and architecture, with a strong understanding of modern technologies and best practices.
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and distributed systems.
• Experience with building and scaling complex software systems.
• Strong understanding of database systems (SQL and/or NoSQL) and data processing technologies.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to build and lead high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Experience with AI/ML concepts and technologies is highly desirable.
• Experience with building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in a greenfield project environment.
• Experience with security best practices.

Working Arrangements:

• Fully remote within the UK.
