Search Tech is delighted to be partnering with one of the South of England's leading Waste Management companies to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager.
Operating across multiple sites, our client has built an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality waste management, recycling and resource recovery services while maintaining the very highest standards of operational excellence, environmental performance and employee safety.
Due to continued growth and investment, they are now seeking a proactive and influential Health & Safety professional to lead and continually improve health and safety standards across their operations.
The Opportunity
Reporting into the SHEQ function and working closely with senior management and operational teams, you will take ownership of the company's Health & Safety framework across multiple operational sites.
This is a highly visible leadership position where you will help shape safety culture, ensure legislative compliance and support operational teams in maintaining best practice across a diverse and fast-paced operational environment.
The role will involve regular travel between company sites throughout the South of England.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Health & Safety Management System.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK Health & Safety legislation, Approved Codes of Practice (ACOPs) and industry best practice.
- Provide expert Health & Safety advice and guidance to Directors, Managers and operational teams.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Monitor Health & Safety performance through KPI reporting and trend analysis.
- Develop and deliver toolbox talks, training programmes and awareness campaigns.
- Support managers with risk assessments, COSHH assessments, manual handling assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Manage contractor Health & Safety compliance processes.
- Oversee safe systems for plant, equipment, vehicle movements and operational activities.
- Promote behavioural safety initiatives across the business.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities including the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Environment Agency where required.
- Ensure statutory inspections, maintenance schedules and certification programmes remain compliant.
- Support emergency planning including fire safety, first aid and business continuity.
- Work collaboratively with operational management to continuously improve safety performance whilst supporting commercial objectives.
About You
We're looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who is confident operating within a multi-site industrial environment and who enjoys working closely with operational teams to drive positive change.
You will possess excellent communication skills, be confident influencing stakeholders at every level and have a practical, hands‑on approach to Health & Safety management.
Essential
- NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Strong auditing and compliance experience.
- Experience delivering Health & Safety training.
- Excellent understanding of risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Strong report writing and Microsoft Office skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel regularly across multiple operational sites.
Desirable
- ISO 45001 Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.
- Experience working within integrated management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001).
- Mental Health First Aid qualification.
- Fire Risk Assessment training.
- Membership of IOSH or another relevant professional body.
- Previous experience within Waste Management, Recycling, Logistics, Heavy Industry or another high-risk operational environment.
